 to Benefit Operation Smile

During October 2005, photographers from across the country are joined together with the Professional Photographers of America Charities in promoting “Family Portrait Month.” This national fund-raising effort will benefit Operation Smile, which treats children who suffer with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

Locally, Dream City Photography contributed 10% of all portrait sales booked in October to PPA Charities for Operation Smile. “We’re really excited about participating in this wonderful fundraiser”, says Susan Grant of Dream City Photography. “Our studio is actually expanding family portrait month to include family, children, headshots, engagement portraits, pet photos, etc. Additionally, we are offering special packages for groups during this promotion - so if your company, group, organization, or club wants their pictures taken, this would be a great time to schedule a photo session and contribute to a wonderful cause.”

Each year Operation Smile, an organization of thousands of volunteer surgeons, dentists, and specialized health-care professionals, perform surgeries on as many needy children as their funding permits. Because of the medical volunteers, it costs only $240 to perform a typical operation. More than 100,000 children are born with a facial deformity each year in Operation Smile’s 23 mission countries. To date, they have helped more than 90,000 children.

According to PPA president Ann Monteith, “When families participate in Family Portrait Month, they are making it possible to truly change the lives of children who would otherwise face a lifetime of pain and rejection.”
